All about the entryway. Our top tips and a peek at our latest project.
Entryways are one of our favorite rooms to design. We like to think of it as the appetizer to the home because it serves as a sneak peek of whats to come.
Whether your entryway is a vestibule, grand or opens right into your living room it needs to function well for you and your family’s needs. This becomes even more important if you don’t have a seperate mudroom and the entryway is the primary space to enter the home.
We always like to make sure there is a table that scales with your space. This could be a small console for a smaller entryway or a large round table if your space is on the larger side. This is the perfect place for keys, mail, and a candle or a diffuser to welcome guests with a great scent. Some stacks of books, a large vase with seasonal flowers, and mirror help complete the look.
Next, we like to ground the space with a great rug. Go larger than you think and we suggest an indoor/outdoor rug that can withstand the foot traffic. Finally, a great light fixture will really complete and transform your entryway. We usually recommend a semi-flush mount but if you have higher ceilings you can even do a pendant.
Don’t afraid to be bold. This isn’t a room you will spend a lot of time in so you can really take risks because you won’t tire of it the same way you would your family room. Think wallpaper, bold paint, a great floor tile. These are all things that will transform your entryway and really make that great initial statement when you come home from a long day or receive guests.

This entryway is a vestibule style and was pretty basic before with beige walls and a builder grade light. We painted the walls a crisp light with Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore and the trim and doors a deep navy with Hale Navy also by Benjamin Moore. We added abstract navy and white wallpaper and an antique gold semi-flush mount to the ceiling. The console, coat hooks and basket add function to the space for added storage and its all grounded by a great neutral rug.
